The Right to Information Act, 2005 has come in to force with effect from 12.10.2005. Detailed provisions of the Act and more information can be had in Website: centralexcisechennai.gov.in more particularly from the ‘CHENNAI – III’ Web-page.
2. Pursuant to the Section 5(1) & 5(2) of the Act, as regards Chennai III, Central Excise Commissionerate, the following Officers have been designated by the Chief Commissioner of Central Excise, Chennai Zone to be the Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) and Central Assistant Public Information Officer (CAPIO).
The Appellate Authority is Smt. Heera Radhakrishnan, Chief Commissioner of Central Excise, Chennai Central Excise Zone, No. 121, Nungambakkam High Road, Nungambakkam,Chennai–34.Phone:28331010.FAX: 28331015 3. Citizens requiring information may please seek the same in writing from the Central Public Information Officer or Central Assistant Public Information Officer .
4. The application fee is Rs. 10/- and the price per page is Rs.2/-. The details are:-
i) A person, who desires to obtain any information under this Act, shall make a request in writing or through electronic means in English or Hindi or in the official language of the area in which the application is being made, accompanied by an application fee of rupees ten.
ii) For providing the information under sub-section (1) of section 7, further fee shall be charged at the following rates:
a. rupees two for each page (in A-4 or A-3 size paper) created or copied; b. actual charge or cost price of a copy in larger size paper; c. actual cost or price for samples or models; and d. for inspection of record, no fee for the first hour; and a fee of rupees five for each fifteen minutes (or fraction thereof) thereafter.
iii) For providing the information under sub-section (5) of section 7, where access to information is to be provided in the printed or in any electronic format, the applicant shall pay at the following rates:
a. for information provided in diskette or floppy rupees fifty per diskette or floppy; and
b. for information provided in printed form at the price fixed for such publication or rupees two per page of photocopy for extracts from the publication.
5. In this connection the copy of the Notification dated 16.09.2005 issued by the Government of India , Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Personnel and Training, New Delhi is enclosed.

In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (b) and (c) of sub-section (2) of Section 27 of the Right to Information Act, 2005 (22 of 2005), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules, namely:
1. Short title and commencement – (1) These rules may be called the Right to Information (Regulation of Fee and Cost) Rules, 2005.
(2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
(a) ‘Act’ means the Right to Information Act, 2005; (b) ‘section’ means section of the Act; (c) All other words and expressions used herein but not defined and defined in the Act shall have the meanings assigned to them in the Act.
