The  Chennai - I C.Ex., Commissionerate    comprises  the  areas  within the Fort - Tondiarpet  Taluk   of   Chennai   District,  Madvavaram  Firka  of Ambattur Taluk   of   Tiruvallur  District, Minjur Firka of Ponneri Taluk of Tiruvallur District   and   the    Airport    Terminal   ( part  of   Meenambakkam   Village )   of Alandur  Firka  of Tambaram  Taluk  of  Kanchipuram  District.

The Commissionerate  has the following Divisions.

1.     A Division    2.       B Division     3.       C Division      4.     D Division  5.E Division

There are 5 ranges in each of the Divisions, comprising of 20 ranges in Chennai-I. The jurisdiction of the above Divisions will be functional as detailed below;                 

‘A’ Division:-All the units of M/s.IOC manufacturing commodities under chapter 27 of CETA 1985, and units manufacturing commodities falling   under Chapter 21 & 36.

 ‘B’ Division:-All the units (other than M/s.IOC) manufacturing commodities under chapter 27 and units manufacturing commodities falling under chapters 24, 28 and 29. 

‘C’ Division:-All the units manufacturing commodities falling under chapter 30,32,39,40,82,83,84,85,86 and 87. 

‘D’ Division:-All the units manufacturing commodities falling under chapter   34,38,48,52 to 59, 68,72 to 76.

Any new unit manufacturing products under Chapter 27 will be in Division B

Any new unit manufacturing commodities other than those listed above, will be in Division 'A'
