The Overall supervision of Chennai Central Excise Zone is done by the Chief Commissioner of Central Excise, Chennai.  There are five Commissionerates viz., Chennai - I, Chennai - II, Chennai - III, Chennai - IV and Pondicherry each headed by a Commissioner. Commissioner of Central Excise Chennai - I is also the cadre controlling authority for the Tamil Nadu Zone. There are five Divisions in Chennai - I Central Excise Commissionerate viz., A Division , B Division ,C Division ,D Division , and E Division  each headed by a Deputy/Assistant Commissioner.
