26.01.2012 - Republic Day Celebrations

Republic Day was celebrated in Chennai I & III Commissionerates today. The National Flag was hoisted by Shri. K. Srivastava, IRS., Chief Commissioner of Central Excise and Service Tax, Chennai zone at 08.00 AM at No.26 N.H. Road, Chennai-34 and the Chief Commissioner took the Guard of honour given by the uniformed officers of the Central Excise, Chennai I and III Commissionerates. The Ceremony was attended by all the officers and staff of Central Excise, Chennai I & III Commissionerate.

CHIEF COMMISSIONER'S SPEECH:

 

Chief Commissioner in his speech has reiterated that Republic day is one of the most important National Day in our calendar.

 

          On this day we the people have adopted the Indian Constitution for sovereign secular, democratic republic.

 

          Further he has stated that our democracy is vibrant and has stood the test of time, inspite of various challenges in the economic, security and development fields.

          As per various economic reports India is expected to achieve 6.8% to 7 % economic growth in the current fiscal year inspite of economic slowdown in west.

 

          He has further commended the role of our department in achieving the said economic growth. Referring to the recent review meeting held by Finance Minister in Chennai, the Chief Commissioner has called upon the officers of the department to rise to the occasion by putting their best efforts in sustaining momentum and growth to achieve various targets of the Department and to provide efficient, transparent administration to all the stake holders.

 

          He stated that for the first time the Departmental tableau will be on display in the Republic day parade this year which is an honour to the whole Department.

 

          He appreciated and congratulated the officers who won the overall championship (South Zone) in the just concluded sports meet at Hyderabad.

 

          He congratulated the officers who have been awarded the presidential award for specially distinguished record of service in South Zone.

 

          Further he stated that the Department is likely to undergo changes in administration due to restructuring of the cadre which is in the advanced stage.

 

          He has extended his warmest greetings to all officers
